We, as human beings, must remember that we are sinners in need of a complete change. The death penalty was passed to each of us through the wrong choice the father of humanity, Adam, made. The Bible says:

"Therefore, just as through one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned…" (Romans 5:12)

The Bible also says:

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

God cannot tolerate sin and He will eradicate it. But before He does, He wants to save the sinner, you and I. That’s why Jesus came to the earth…to save us from our sins. Before Jesus was born, an angel told Joseph what to name the new baby.

Matthew 1:21 says:

"…you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins."

When you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, the death penalty over your life was broken. You became one of "His people." But you may not have felt any different. You may have still found yourself bound to your addictions, fighting with your spouse or desiring worldly entertainment. You were suddenly more aware of these things than before, but you didn't know what to do about them.

The hope is that not only has God saved you from sin's death penalty, He wants to save you from the sin itself...here and now. Let's look at His plan!
